Yippie it is my favourite day of the working week! It’s Friday and that means it is almost the weekend!! The weather has been so amazing this week we have spent most of it outdoors and my babies love that! Today I am sharing a new recipe that I tried out last weekend! For my daughters birthday cake I knew I wanted to do something 1.) new 2.) simple 3.) something she could help me with since she loves to bake right now. I decided to try a Naked Cake because simply they look great so I went to my trusty Pinterest to figure out how one is to make a Naked Cake. The cake wasn’t as simple as I thought but it turned out awesome! I had fun letting my daughter help with part of it and it tasted delicious so that in my books makes it a winner! Here is the recipe so you can duplicate it!

What You Will Need:

3 8-inch cakes*
favorite frosting**
1 plastic icing bag
fruit or decorative foliage
cake stand or plate
serrated knife
scissors
offset spatula

*If using a boxed cake mix (which I did), purchase 2 boxes, prepare it according to the instructions, divide the batter equally between 3 8-inch cake pans that have been lightly sprayed with nonstick spray and bake until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.

**If using pre-made icing, 2 containers will be plenty.

Using a serrated knife, level the tops of each cake layer by cutting off the domed area.

Discard the removed section of the cake or save to make cake pops.

Place one cake layer on a cake stand or plate. To secure the cake in place, a small dollop of frosting

can be placed on the stand or plate prior to adding the first layer.

IMG_8619Fill an icing bag with the frosting, twist the open end shut and use a pair of scissors to cut a small opening at the triangular end of the bag. The cut should be approximately the size of a dime.

Then fill the middle with more frosting.

Top with another layer of cake and repeat the frosting steps. When placing the final cake layer on top, flip the cake upside down so the bottom is the top of the cake.

Ice the cake with the remainder of the frosting and use a spatula to spread it evenly across the top.

I definitely will be making this cake again in the near future! I hope you give it a try and let me know what you think of it!With Canada Day and 4th of July celebrations right around the corner why not try it and share it with some family and friends! Have a great day and enjoy the weather – while it is still good!
